Amaron, a son of Omni, kept the Nephite plates after his father conferred them on him around 279 B.C. His own entry is brief: he records that by the time 320 years had passed, the more wicked part of the Nephites had been destroyed, the Lord having refused to let unverified the words he spoke to their fathers, that those who would not keep his commandments would not prosper in the land (Omni 1:4-6). The Lord spared the righteous and delivered them from their enemies (Omni 1:7).

Following his father’s practice in keeping the records, Amaron delivered the plates to his brother Chemish (Omni 1:8), continuing the line of record-keepers that ran down to King Benjamin.
