Amoron was Mormon’s source for an account of Nephite prisoners taken by the Lamanites from the tower of Sherrizah. Mormon, writing to his son Moroni, names Amoron as the one from whom he received word that the Lamanites held many prisoners — men, women, and children — taken at Sherrizah (Moroni 9:7).
According to Amoron’s report, the Lamanites had slain the husbands and fathers of the captive women and children, then fed the women on the flesh of their husbands and the children on the flesh of their fathers, giving them little water (Moroni 9:8). Mormon set the account in his letter during the final wars between the Nephites and Lamanites, around AD 400–421.
