Corianton was the youngest of three sons of Alma the Younger taken on the mission to the Zoramites. Around 74 BC, Alma took his sons Shiblon and Corianton, along with Ammon, Aaron, Omner, Amulek, and Zeezrom, to preach among the Zoramites in Antionum; the eldest son, Helaman, was left behind (Alma 31:6-8). On the mission Corianton forsook the ministry and went into the land of Siron, after a harlot named Isabel. Alma told him this conduct turned the Zoramites against the teaching, so that they would not believe his words (Alma 39:3-11).
Alma instructed Corianton at length on the resurrection, the state of the soul between death and resurrection, the justice and mercy of God, the Atonement, and chastity (Alma 39-42). In Alma 42, Alma grounded the entire plan of mercy in the barring of the tree of life: because mankind was cut off from the tree, a probationary time was created in which repentance and mercy become possible; without that time, the plan of redemption could not take effect (Alma 42:2-6, 13). He charged him to repent, to counsel with his elder brothers, and to go preach the word with soberness (Alma 39-42).
Corianton returned to the ministry. He is later named with Helaman, Shiblon, Ammon, and others who preached and brought peace and growth to the church (Alma 49:30). In the thirty-ninth year of the reign of the judges, after Shiblon died, Corianton sailed to the land northward to carry provisions to the people who had migrated there (Alma 63:10).
