Emer, son of Omer and a descendant of Jared, was anointed king over the Jaredites by his father in Omer’s old age and reigned in his stead (Ether 9:14; Ether 1:29). Omer saw two years of peace after the anointing and then died, and Emer continued in his father’s pattern of rule (Ether 9:15).
The Lord again began to lift the curse from the land, and Emer’s house prospered. Within sixty-two years the people had grown strong and rich, with fruit, grain, silks, fine linen, gold, silver, cattle, and many kinds of animals, including horses, asses, elephants, cureloms, and cumoms (Ether 9:16-19). Emer executed judgment in righteousness all his days and fathered many sons and daughters, among them Coriantum, whom he anointed to reign in his stead (Ether 9:21; Ether 1:28).
After anointing Coriantum, Emer lived four years more and saw peace in the land. In his day he saw the Son of Righteousness, and he died in peace (Ether 9:22).
