The chief judge over the land of Gideon held office during the ministry of Alma the Younger and is named only by his office, not by name, in the record. The land of Gideon, east of the river Sidon, was called after the man Gideon who had delivered the people of Limhi from bondage and was later killed by Nehor (Alma 1:8-9; Alma 6:7).
When Korihor was carried out of Zarahemla and came over into the land of Gideon to preach against Christ and the prophecies of his coming, he was bound and brought before the high priest, Giddonah, and the chief judge of the land (Alma 30:21-29). When the two men saw that he reviled against God, they made no further reply but bound him and sent him to Zarahemla to be brought before Alma and the chief judge who was governor over all the land (Alma 30:23, 29).
