Hagoth was a Nephite shipbuilder who, around 55 B.C., built an “exceedingly large ship” on the borders of the land Bountiful, near the land Desolation, and launched it into the west sea by the narrow neck of land leading northward (Alma 63:5). Many Nephites, along with many women and children, boarded the ship with provisions and sailed north. The following year he built more ships; the first returned, took on more people and provisions, and set out again for the land northward. That ship and its passengers were never heard of more, and the record supposes they drowned. One other ship also sailed, and the record states its fate was unknown (Alma 63:7-8). The account does not say whether Hagoth himself sailed.
