Ishmael was the grandfather of the Nephite missionary Amulek, who served alongside Alma the Younger at Ammonihah around 82 BC. Ishmael is named once in the record and only within Amulek’s genealogy; the text reports nothing of his own deeds. His son was Giddonah, and through Giddonah he was an ancestor of Amulek, who identified himself: “I am Amulek; I am the son of Giddonah, who was the son of Ishmael” (Alma 10:2).
Through the same line, Ishmael was descended from Aminadi, who interpreted the writing on the wall of the temple that was written by the finger of God (Alma 10:2).
