Laman, son of the Lamanite king Laman, began to reign over the Lamanites when his father died, and stirred his people to war against Zeniff’s Nephite colonists (Mosiah 10:6). Zeniff’s people, though aged Zeniff himself led them, went up to battle, drove the Lamanites out of their land, and slew them in great numbers (Mosiah 10:10-20).
Amulon, a former priest of King Noah who had become a leader among Alma’s people, was subject to King Laman and exercised authority over Alma and his followers in the land of Helam, persecuting them and laying tasks upon them (Mosiah 24:8-9).
Alma and his people escaped this bondage: they fled into the wilderness, and after twelve days reached Zarahemla, where King Mosiah received them. The account of Laman’s reign closes with their departure from his dominion (Mosiah 24).
