Lehi², one of the two sons of Zoram, chief captain of the Nephite armies. Around 81 B.C. Zoram and his sons Lehi and Aha went to the high priest Alma to ask where they should search for Nephite brethren taken captive by the Lamanites. Alma told them the Lamanites would cross the river Sidon in the south wilderness beyond Manti; Zoram and his sons crossed the Sidon with their armies, met the Lamanites on the east of the river, scattered them, and recovered the captives without losing a single man (Alma 16:5-8).

The same Lehi later served as a captain under Moroni. Moroni appointed him chief captain over the city of Noah, and the record identifies him as the Lehi who had fought the Lamanites in the valley east of the river Sidon. When the Lamanites learned that Lehi commanded the city, they feared him; they attacked the fortified city anyway and were driven back through its single entrance, losing more than a thousand men while not one Nephite was killed (Alma 49:16-23).

Lehi commanded a small army left to protect the city Bountiful. When the Lamanites pursued Teancum toward Bountiful, Lehi’s fresh men met them, and the Lamanites fled in confusion; Lehi held back until they met Moroni, then the two forces surrounded the Lamanites, and Lehi pressed their rear until they surrendered (Alma 52:27-36). Moroni then went with Lehi to the city of Mulek and gave him command of it. The record states that Lehi had been with Moroni in most of his battles, was a man like Moroni, and that the two were beloved by each other and by all the people of Nephi (Alma 53:2).
