Lib was a prominent king among the Jaredites, ascending to the throne following the death of his father, King Kish. Renowned for his righteousness, Lib was noted for doing “that which was good in the sight of the Lord” (Ether 10:19), thus carrying on the benevolent reign characteristic of his forebears, such as his grandfather Corom. During his leadership, Lib achieved distinction as a great hunter, a pursuit made viable by the Lord’s removal of poisonous serpents from the land, which had previously posed a threat to his people.

The reign of Lib was marked by prosperity and a flourishing of Jaredite civilization. He oversaw the construction of a significant city by a narrow neck of land, and patronized the endeavors of his subjects to cultivate the land and foster trade. The people mastered various crafts, working with diverse metals and fabrics. Through their industrious efforts, they enjoyed considerable wealth and comfort, fulfilling the Lord’s pronouncement of the land being choice above all others (Ether 10:28). The scriptures recount that under Lib’s governance, the population thrived, living in a state of unparalleled blessedness and prosperity.

With his long and fruitful life, Lib engendered numerous sons and daughters, notably including Hearthom, who would continue his legacy by succeeding him (Ether 10:29). His era was characterized by peace and significant achievements, leaving a lasting imprint on the Jaredite record.
