Mormon was the father of the Mormon who abridged the Nephite record, and shared his name. He was a descendant of Nephi (Mormon 1:1-3, 5). The record reports one act of his: around A.D. 322, when his son was eleven, he carried the boy into the land southward, to the land of Zarahemla (Mormon 1:6).
His son had been singled out the year before by Ammaron, who charged him at about age ten to retrieve and continue the Nephite records when he came of age (Mormon 1:1-3, 5). The record states nothing further of the father’s own deeds or character.
