Moron was a king in the Jaredite lineage, notable for his reign which was marked by turbulence and a departure from righteousness. He succeeded his father, Ethem, on the throne and perpetuated his father’s legacy of iniquity. Moron’s leadership is characterized in the record as one that was “wicked before the Lord” (Ether 11:14), aligning with the pattern of governance that plagued many of his predecessors and successors.

During his reign, Moron faced significant opposition as a secret combination, born out of desire for power and gain, stirred rebellion amongst the people. Consequently, his kingdom was divided, with Moron retaining control over only half of it for many years (Ether 11:15). Despite this adversity, Moron was able to regain control of the full kingdom by eventually overthrowing the rebellious leader—only to be overthrown once again by a new challenger, a descendant of the brother of Jared. After this second usurpation, Moron was confined to captivity, where he spent the remainder of his days (Ether 11:17-18).

It was during this time of captivity that Moron fathered Coriantor, who inherited the Jaredite record and was responsible for continuing the regal line (Ether 11:18; 1:7). Despite the oppressive conditions of his final years, Moron’s lineage sustained through Coriantor, linking to the prophet Ether, who notably chronicled the extensive history of the Jaredites.
