Noah was the patriarch who built an ark to preserve his family and the animals from a global flood that God sent because of the wickedness of the earth. Genesis calls him “a just man and perfect in his generations” who “walked with God” (Genesis 6:9).

The Nephite record names Noah and the flood when it speaks of God’s judgments on the wicked. Amulek told the people of Ammonihah that, but for the prayers of the righteous among them, they would already face utter destruction, though by famine, pestilence, and the sword rather than by flood as in the days of Noah (Alma 10:22). During Christ’s visit to the Nephites, he repeated the Lord’s oath that the waters of Noah would no more go over the earth (3 Nephi 22:9). In the book of Ether, the Jaredite barges are described as watertight “like unto the ark of Noah” (Ether 6:7).
