사울

Saul, the first king of ancient Israel, is named once in the Book of Mormon, within Nephi’s quotation of Isaiah, where the town Gibeah is called “Gibeah of Saul” (2 Nephi 20:29). The verse preserves the place name from Saul’s reign rather than recounting his life.

The events of Saul’s reign are recorded in the Bible, not the Book of Mormon. His rule began around 1096 BC and lasted about 40 years until his death around 1026 BC, the span during which Israel changed from a confederation of tribes to a monarchy. He was contemporary with the prophet Samuel, who anointed him king. His reign included military campaigns against the Philistines, and he died on Mount Gilboa.
