Shiblom was a Jaredite king who succeeded his father, Com. His brother rebelled against him, touching off a great war across the land (Ether 11:4), and at his brother’s instigation all the prophets who had foretold the people’s destruction were put to death (Ether 11:5).
The prophets had warned that a curse and a destruction would come on the land unless the people repented; the people did not heed the Lord, and in the days of Shiblom there came wars, contentions, famines, and pestilences, with destruction the record calls greater than any before it (Ether 11:6-8; Ether 11:7). The people then began to repent, and the Lord had mercy on them (Ether 11:8). Shiblom was slain, and his heir Seth was taken captive and remained in captivity the rest of his life (Ether 11:9).
