Zoram² was the chief captain over the Nephite armies around 81 B.C. and had two sons, Lehi and Aha (Alma 16:5). Lamanite armies had come into the borders of the land and into the city of Ammonihah, slaying its people and destroying the city before the Nephites could raise an army to drive them out; they also struck around the borders of Noah and carried others away captive into the wilderness (Alma 16:2-3).
Wanting to recover the captives, Zoram² and his two sons went to Alma, the high priest, knowing he had the spirit of prophecy, to ask where they should go in search of their brethren (Alma 16:5). Alma inquired of the Lord and told them the Lamanites would cross the river Sidon in the south wilderness beyond the borders of Manti, and that they would meet them east of the Sidon and there recover the captives (Alma 16:6). Zoram² and his sons crossed the river Sidon with their armies and marched beyond the borders of Manti into the south wilderness, on the east side of the river. They came upon the Lamanite armies, scattered and drove them into the wilderness, and took back their captured brethren without the loss of a single one (Alma 16:7-8).
