Gomorrah appears once in the Nephite record, paired with the neighboring city Sodom, in Nephi’s quotation of Isaiah’s oracle against Babylon. Isaiah declares that Babylon, “the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency,” will be overthrown as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah (2 Nephi 23:19). The two cities stand in the verse as the measure of complete and final destruction. The record gives no further detail about Gomorrah. Its ruins, not described in the text, are thought to lie submerged at the southern end of the Dead Sea.
