Sinim is a distant land named once in the record, in Nephi’s quotation of Isaiah: the house of Israel “shall come from far; and lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim” during the gathering of dispersed Israel (1 Nephi 21:12). The verse places Sinim among the far regions from which the scattered people return, but gives no further detail, and its location is uncertain.
Interpretations vary. Some have linked it to the region of the Nile Delta, by comparison with the term “Sinites”; others have proposed ancient China, a distant land in western reckoning. Both readings are speculative, since the single reference supplies no geographic anchor.
