The land of Heth lay in the northern territories of the Jaredites and became the residence of Jared2 after he rebelled against his father, Omer, the reigning king (Ether 8:1-2). At Heth, Jared used cunning words to flatter the people until he had gained half the kingdom (Ether 8:2). From this base he then gave battle to his father, carried Omer into captivity, and made him serve in bondage (Ether 8:3).
