Property and Ownership

Property and Ownership concern goods or land held by a person or community. Laban saw that the family’s property “was exceedingly great”; after he thrust them out and sent servants to kill them, they left it behind and “it fell into the hands of Laban” (1 Nephi 3:25-26).

Under Lamanite rule, the people were required to deliver “one half of all they possessed,” including gold, silver, and precious things, and to “pay tribute to the king of the Lamanites from year to year” (Mosiah 19:15).

Giddianhi demanded the surrender of “your liberty, and your property, and your country” (3 Nephi 3:2). During the Jaredite collapse, every man “did cleave unto that which was his own” and kept a sword “in the defence of his property” and household (Ether 14:2).
