An unnamed angel of the Lord appeared to Samuel the Lamanite and sent him to declare glad tidings of the salvation that would come through Jesus Christ. Samuel reported that the angel had brought these tidings to his soul and had commanded him to deliver them, though the people would not receive him (Helaman 13:7). The angel’s charge was to prophesy and to call the people to repent and prepare the way of the Lord (Helaman 14:9).
Through Samuel, the angel foretold signs that would mark Christ’s coming, including thunder and lightning lasting many hours (Helaman 14:26). The angel said that many would see greater things still, so that there would be no cause for unbelief among the people (Helaman 14:28).
