Micah

Micah was a prophet of Judah from Moresheth-Gath, active in the 8th century B.C. during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. His name means “Who is like the Lord?”

He prophesied that the ruler of Israel would come forth from Bethlehem Ephratah, “though thou be little among the thousands of Judah” (Micah 5:2).

Jesus, teaching the Nephites, repeated Micah’s words about the remnant of Jacob: that it would be among the Gentiles “as a lion among the beasts of the forest,” treading down and tearing in pieces, with its hand lifted against its adversaries and its enemies cut off (3 Nephi 20:16-19; paralleling Micah 5:8-9). The same discourse echoes Micah 4:12-13, where the Lord gathers his people “as the sheaves into the floor” and makes their horn iron and their hoofs brass to beat many peoples in pieces. The lion image recurs at 3 Nephi 21:12.
