Nazareth, a city in Galilee, is named once in the Book of Mormon, in the vision Nephi1 received of the tree of life. Nephi1 beheld Jerusalem and other cities, and in the city of Nazareth he saw a virgin who was “exceedingly fair and white” (1 Nephi 11:13). An angel told him the virgin was the mother of the Son of God after the manner of the flesh (1 Nephi 11:18), and Nephi1 then saw her bearing a child, identified as the Lamb of God (1 Nephi 11:20-21). The vision gives no other detail about the city. In the Bible, Nazareth is the childhood home of Jesus Christ, who was known as Jesus of Nazareth.
