The rock of Oreb appears once, in Isaiah’s words quoted by Nephi, where the defeat of the Assyrian army is likened to Midian’s defeat: “And the Lord of Hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb; and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt” (2 Nephi 20:26). The name comes from the Old Testament account in which the Midianite prince Oreb was killed on the rock that took his name during Gideon’s campaign (Judges 7:25). It is named only in this quotation and is not a location within the Nephite record itself.
