The land of Zebulun appears in Nephite scripture only within Nephi’s quotation of Isaiah, where it is paired with the land of Naphtali. The passage states that the dimness over the region would not be as it was when “he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun, and the land of Naphtali,” before a more grievous affliction by the way of the Red Sea beyond Jordan in Galilee (2 Nephi 19:1, paralleling Isaiah 9:1).
The next verse declares that the people who walked in darkness “have seen a great light” (2 Nephi 19:2). Nephi applies the prophecy to the region of Galilee, identifying the light with the ministry of Jesus Christ. Matthew records the fulfillment: Jesus left Nazareth and dwelt in Capernaum, “in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim,” so that Isaiah’s words about “the land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim” seeing a great light would be fulfilled (Matthew 4:13–16).
The text gives no description of the land’s location, characteristics, or inhabitants beyond its pairing with Naphtali in the prophecy.
