Raising by the hand

Raising by the hand is the act of taking or extending a hand to lift a person from the ground. Among the Lamanites, the king “put forth his hand to raise” men who had bowed before him, “as a token of peace” in a custom taken from the Nephites (Alma 47:22–23).

Amalickiah arranged for his servants to bow before the Lamanite king, and when the king had “raised the first from the ground,” the servant “stabbed the king to the heart” (Alma 47:22–24).

Abish took the queen by the hand “that perhaps she might raise her from the ground”; when Abish touched her hand, the queen “arose and stood upon her feet” (Alma 19:29). Abish then took King Lamoni by the hand, and he “arose and stood upon his feet” (Alma 19:30).
