Stone is material used in an altar, in travel with slings, in making fire, and in walls. A man “built an altar of stones,” made an offering unto the Lord, and gave thanks unto the Lord our God (1 Nephi 2:7).
Those who traveled for many days slew food by the way “with our bows and our arrows and our stones and our slings” (1 Nephi 16:15–16). Nephi “did smite two stones together” that he might make fire (1 Nephi 17:11).
He had been strengthening the armies of the Nephites by “building walls of stone” to encircle them around their cities and the borders of their lands (Alma 48:8).
