Joshua

Joshua, the successor of Moses, declared, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” calling on Israel to “choose you this day whom ye will serve” (Joshua 24:15). In the abridgment that bears Alma’s name, the narrator cites this scripture in describing the freedom of belief that protected even the Anti-Christ Korihor: “For thus saith the scripture: Choose ye this day, whom ye will serve” (Alma 30:8). The wording is treated as familiar to the Nephite audience.

The same choice frames Lehi’s teaching that men are “free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil” (2 Nephi 2:27).
