King Lamoni’s Servants

The servants of King Lamoni watched the king’s flocks, driving them to the place of water called Sebus according to Lamanite custom (Alma 17:25-26). While they were watering the flocks, a band of Lamanites scattered the animals. The servants began to murmur and weep, fearing the king would slay them as he had others whose flocks had been lost (Alma 17:28).

Ammon, a Nephite serving as one of Lamoni’s servants, told them to gather the scattered flocks back to the water. They followed him, drove the flocks together, and brought them again to the place of water (Alma 17:32). When the same men returned to scatter the flocks, Ammon had the servants encircle the herd while he fought the attackers, killing some with his sling and cutting off the arms of others with his sword (Alma 17:33-38). The servants carried the severed arms to the king as evidence of what had happened (Alma 17:39), and testified before him about Ammon’s deeds (Alma 18:1-3). Later, when Ammon, Lamoni, and the queen fell to the earth under the power of God, the servants also called on the Lord until they too fell (Alma 19:15-16).
