The Nephite army that defeated the Gadianton robbers led by Zemnarihah fought under the command of Gidgiddoni. Aware that the robbers were weakened by want of food and heavy losses, Gidgiddoni sent his armies out by night to cut off the robbers’ line of retreat, and on the next day his forces met them front and rear. Many thousands yielded themselves up as prisoners, and the rest were slain (3 Nephi 4:24-27). Their leader, Zemnarihah, was taken and hanged on top of a tree until he was dead, after which the army felled the tree to the earth (3 Nephi 4:28).
As they felled the tree, the army cried with a loud voice that the Lord would preserve his people in righteousness and holiness of heart, and that they might fell to the earth all who sought to slay them through power and secret combinations, as Zemnarihah had been felled (3 Nephi 4:29).
