Nephite scouts who were sent out to watch the camp of the Lamanites during Helaman’s campaign in the land of the Nephites’ southern wars. As Gid, the chief captain guarding a band of Lamanite prisoners, started down toward the land of Zarahemla, his company met these spies (Alma 57:30). The spies cried out that the Lamanite armies were marching toward the city of Cumeni and would fall upon and destroy the Nephites there (Alma 57:31). The prisoners overheard the cries, took courage, and rose in rebellion; most were killed running upon the Nephites’ swords, and the rest fled, after which Gid’s company marched with speed to Cumeni and arrived in time to help hold the city (Alma 57:32-34).
