Nephite Spies

Nephite spies played a strategic role in the Nephite military efforts by gathering intelligence on the movements of the Lamanite armies. Their work is illustrated during a critical period when Gid, a Nephite leader, was escorting Lamanite prisoners. As Gid’s group was moving toward the land of Zarahemla, they encountered these spies who had been dispatched to monitor the Lamanite camp (Alma 57:30). The spies relayed urgent information that the Lamanite armies were advancing toward the city of Cumeni, posing an imminent threat of destruction to the Nephite defenders there (Alma 57:31). This timely intelligence allowed the Nephite forces to prepare for the approaching danger, underscoring the essential function of the spies in the broader context of Nephite military strategy. Their vigilance and effective communication were crucial in alerting their fellows to Lamanite plans, allowing defensive measures to be enacted at pivotal moments.
