Moriancumer was the place on the seashore where Jared and his brother, leading the Jaredites, pitched their tents after the Lord brought them to the great sea that divides the lands. They named the place Moriancumer and lived there in tents for four years (Ether 2:13). At the end of the four years the Lord came to the brother of Jared in a cloud and talked with him for three hours, chastening him for failing to call on the name of the Lord, and the brother of Jared repented (Ether 2:14). The Lord then told him to build barges after the manner they had built before, for the voyage to the land of their inheritance (Ether 2:16–17).
From Moriancumer the brother of Jared went up to the mount Shelem, where he made sixteen small clear stones from molten rock and asked the Lord to touch them so they would give light in the barges. The Lord touched the stones, and when the brother of Jared saw the Lord’s finger the veil was taken from his eyes; the Lord showed himself and declared that he was Jesus Christ (Ether 3:1-16). The Lord also gave him two stones to seal up with his sealed record, by which the writing would later be read (Ether 3:23-24). The name Moriancumer matches the revealed name of the brother of Jared, Mahonri Moriancumer.
