Land Northward

The great land beyond Desolation and the narrow neck

Land Northward

The land northward lay beyond the land of Desolation and the narrow neck, and became the destination of the great Nephite emigrations: five thousand four hundred souls by land, and the ships of Hagoth by the west sea (Alma 63:4-10). In the forty-sixth year an exceedingly great many more departed thither, traveling “to an exceedingly great distance” to large bodies of water and many rivers, building cities of cement where timber was scarce (Helaman 3:3-11). It was also the ancient theater of the Jaredites, whose bones and ruins the people of Limhi found there (Mosiah 8:8; Mosiah 21:25-26).
