An angel of the Lord appeared to Amulek as he was traveling to see a near kinsman, and told him to return to his house to receive and feed a prophet of the Lord, a holy man who had fasted many days because of the sins of the people and was hungry. The angel said the prophet would bless Amulek and his house (Alma 10:7).
Amulek obeyed and returned home, where he found Alma (Alma 10:8). In a parallel account, the man who took Alma in, named as Amulek, told Alma that an angel in a vision had said “Thou shalt receive,” and brought him bread and meat (Alma 8:20-21). Amulek testified that he knew Alma was a holy man because an angel of God had said so, and that he knew Alma’s words were true because the Lord had sent his angel to make them manifest while Alma stayed at his house (Alma 10:9-10). When Zeezrom asked Amulek how he knew there was a true and living God, Amulek answered that an angel had made it known to him (Alma 11:26-31).
In Alma’s preaching at Ammonihah, the angel’s message was that the people must repent because the kingdom of heaven was near, and that the Lord had sent his angel to visit many of the people with that call (Alma 9:25, 29). Alma also reminded the people that they had conversed with angels and had been given the spirit of prophecy and revelation along with other gifts (Alma 9:21).
