Cattle are animals that the people of Nephi raised. They raised “flocks of all manner of cattle of every kind” with grain, fruit, goats, wild goats, and horses (Enos 1:21). A sabbath command said, “thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy cattle” (Mosiah 13:18).
Lachoneus’s people took “their horses, and their chariots, and their cattle” when they gathered at an appointed place to defend themselves against their enemies (3 Nephi 3:22). The Nephites reserved provisions, horses, cattle, and flocks “that they might subsist for the space of seven years” (3 Nephi 4:4). Nephite families later returned to their lands with “his flocks and his herds, his horses and his cattle” (3 Nephi 6:1).
There were “all manner of cattle, of oxen, and cows,” with sheep, swine, goats, and other animals useful for human food (Ether 9:18). Hills dug with a mattock were for “the treading of lesser cattle” (2 Nephi 17:25).
