Silver

Silver is a material counted among possessions and wealth. Lehi left “his gold, and his silver, and his precious things” when he departed into the wilderness with his family, provisions, and tents (1 Nephi 2:4). Nephi and his brothers gathered “our gold, and our silver, and our precious things” from the land of their inheritance (1 Nephi 3:22).

Nephi’s party found “all manner of ore, both of gold, and of silver, and of copper” while journeying in the land of promise (1 Nephi 18:25). Nephi taught his people to work silver with wood, iron, copper, brass, steel, gold, and precious ores “which were in great abundance” (2 Nephi 5:15). Workmen in the lands north and south worked and refined ore, including silver (Helaman 6:11).

Nephite pieces of silver included “a senum of silver, an amnor of silver, an ezrom of silver, and an onti of silver” (Alma 11:6). A senum of silver “was equal to a senine of gold” and was also for a measure of barley and every kind of grain (Alma 11:7). Zeezrom offered Amulek “six onties of silver” if Amulek would deny the existence of a Supreme Being (Alma 11:22).
